Thanks to a partnership between Dow and Procter & Gamble, an innovative recycling technology is transforming hard-to-recycle plastics. This includes rigid, flexible, and multi-layer packaging, which are converted into usable polyethylene.

Many plastic items are challenging to recycle through traditional methods. This new approach aims to produce a near-virgin-quality recycled material with a lower greenhouse gas emissions footprint compared to fossil-based polymers.

The goal of this innovation is to create a closed-loop system where plastic packaging can be continuously recycled and reused instead of ending up in landfills or incinerators. By recovering high-quality post-consumer recycled (PCR) polyethylene, the technology supports more sustainable packaging solutions and maximizes the value of plastic waste.

As the project moves toward commercialisation, it represents a major step toward reducing plastic waste and creating a more sustainable materials industry.
