As the world moves towards more sustainable solutions, packaging innovation plays a key role in reducing waste and enhancing recycling efforts. One notable advancement is the development of liquid barrier coatings designed specifically for paper and cardboard packaging. These coatings create a thin, protective layer that shields the contents inside, whether food or non-food products, while still allowing the packaging to be easily recycled.

One innovative example comes from Dow, providing a solution for packaging that previously could not be easily recycled. It ensures the packaging can be repulped after use, making it more circular and reducing material consumption through thinner coatings than incumbent technologies.
Dow鈥檚 Lauterbourg Coating Materials site in France, located near the German border in the Alsace region, has inaugurated the company鈥檚 first production line for these materials in January 2025, serving both the French and European markets. This marks an important step in expanding more sustainable packaging solutions across the region.
